If you don’t have a markup policy, consider creating a markup policy. It could be a big deal, like this one.

Just like any other web page, you want to make sure you have a markup policy. I’m not saying you should put down your favorite color scheme or make sure your links aren’t broken, I’m saying you want to make sure you are writing all of the HTML code that’s going on on your pages. It’s important to be consistent, but not to write code that is redundant (and could be made much more efficient if you had to write it yourself).

Just like every other HTML template, you do what you have to do to make sure you have one that is actually in HTML.

Making sure you have a markup policy is one of those things where all you want to do is make sure that your pages are well structured. HTML templates are great for creating pages that are flat and easy to edit, but they don’t really work very well for pages that require a lot of complicated markup. For instance, if you want to make a page that contains a lot of links to other pages, you probably want to add an

If your site contains a lot of “stuff” (and that is the only way you can get it to rank in the first place), it becomes very hard for anyone to find and read your pages.

I think that the problem with a lot of sites is that they include a lot of code that just adds a bunch of stuff to the page. Most sites are so busy getting their fancy pages up that they forget to take the time to add more content as well. For instance, I’ve seen sites with a lot of ads on them that just add a few lines of code to their pages and then leave it at that for the page to do most of the work.

The problem with most sites is that they don’t really take in the “Markup” of the page. They just try and cram their fancy pages into the least amount of space they possibly can. This often results in a page that is bloated and cluttered with unnecessary HTML and CSS. This results in a page that is hard to read, hard to use, and hard to maintain.

It could be that some sites are designed for people to just be lazy and have minimal markup. That probably isn’t going to work. But you need to do some research and see if you can find a site that has a few of the things that make it easier to use.

When designing a website for a group of people to use, look into the layout of the page. Is there enough space to let the most important parts of a page be the most prominent? Is there enough space for a description of the page? These little things matter.
