This is where The Lark comes in. It is a smartphone app that allows users to enter a zip code and find what they are within driving distance of.
The Lark has been up and running for only a few months now but the concept is simple. You can download the app from Google Play, iTunes, or the App Store. Once you’ve entered your zip code, it will then give you a list of nearby communities and their population. It’s not nearly as scary as the Lark. I’ve just started doing a full census and it shows some population of 1,000.
For the most part, the new app is very simple. The more you download the app the more it will inform you, and that way you can quickly find nearby communities based on what you want to do. While most of the communities are listed under the category of “Fun Activities,” there are some that are listed under the categories of “Sports,” “Recreational Activities,” and “Biking & Walking.” I dont know how I feel about all of them. Maybe in the beginning I was a little sad because I dont have that many of these things to do.
The website also displays the number of people per community in the app, which is interesting if you’re wondering how many people live on each community. I’m not sure if you can see the numbers in the app, but in the app you can create a “profile” that will show you the population of each community. You can also use this option to limit the number of people you can see per community.
So the number of people on each community is just the number of people on each group. The more people you can see in each community, the more likely you are to see fewer people on each group.

The app is pretty good with it’s features. The ability to select your own location is good, and the ability to search for a specific community is not bad either. The app is not, however, super helpful with making connections. The app allows you to see a list of communities in your area, but it does not show you the communities you are missing out on.
The app is also a bit slow in loading up, so it can take several minutes for the entire map to load. It’s very annoying, but it’s not a huge deal. I think everyone has to deal with getting the map to load up fast and not have to wait for it to load up.
